INTERVIEW WITH HEAD-X OF ANDROMEDA
----------------------------------
The interview was made by Fester of
Absolute! but without Archibald of
Absolute! it couldn't have been done.
He is the guy related to the 'target'.
SH - Sledge Hammer
HX - Head-X of Andromeda
SH - Please tell us about your scene
career and about your personality.
HX - My real name is Terje Tho, and I
am 20 years old. And now about my
career. Well, it started out 4-5
years ago when I joined Absence, as a
musician. As that time we had no
coder, one of us had to become one. I
did. We released some average
music-disks, got new members and
released some good demos, until last
autumn (1991) when we joined the
forces of Andromeda.
About myself I would say that I'm a
modern viking living up in the North.
And I'm not funny at all. So you will
not get a funny interview! Despite
this I am used to think of myself as
Bobby Brown.....
SH - Why did you enter the scene?
HX - Because my mum DIDN'T want me to.
SH - Have you ever tried other jobs?
Why did you become a coder?
HX - You know, I am/was a musician
too. When you code, the 'only'
limiting parameters are: The hardware
and one's imagination. So I think of
it as a challenge to get the most out
of it; that is to CREATE. This is why
I, after all, became a coder.
SH - What hardware do you use?
HX - Well, here's my list: A500
(1.3/2.0), 20 MB HardDisk, 3 MB RAM,
Midi Inter- face, MPS-1250 printer,
sampler, 1084S monitor. In addition I
have one synthesizer (an old Roland
D-20) and a remote keyboard. And of
course, I couldn't live without my
microwave.
SH - Have you ever invented a totally
new kind of routine?
HX - So you want me to tell about my
secrets!? I have never RELEASED a new
kind of routine.But in the project I'm
working on (12 months) there are a lot
(!) of new routines. As this demo
will not be finished until March-April
1993, I just wonder how many of them
will 'survive' the X-mas party in
Denmark.
SH - What is your favourite routine?
HX - This is a tricky question. I
fancy copperbars......................
If it's original and new I usually
like it. My favourite routine is a
routine that I have made myself, and
which is going be a part of my coming
demo..
SH - Is there anything you just can't
code?
HX - Well, I've always wanted to turn
my Amiga into a foodprocessing
machine. But so far I've failed.
SH - Why don't Andromeda let foreign
dudes join? Would you say no to a
foreign guy who wants to join with his
very cool BBS?
HX - Efficiency, management and homo-
genity. These are the keywords for
our strict rules. It is easier to
manage a group of only Norwegians, and
the social bounds becomes closer. As
we are very concerned about the
quality of our products, it's easy to
maintain a 'good quality' image with
only Norwegian members (short
distances, no differing languages etc.
etc.). So I guess we would say no to
a foreign guy with a cool BBS.
SH - Can you tell us briefly
Andromeda's story?
HX - Andromeda was founded in Oct.
1989. The first members was
Dr.Jekyll, Lord Interface and Hydra.
They made our 'constitution' which
consists of these rules/laws: -
Quality, not quantity - No pack-disks
(it's better making
something oneself, than putting
together something others have made)
- No modem-imports (we emphasize
quality export)
- Only Norwegian members (good
efficiency and easy management)
- No lamers (lamer: a person who
can't behave and says things at the
wrong time at the wrong place. A
lamer is not necessarily a person
who bougth his Amiga last week)

SH - Your team is called as 'The
Norwegian Phenomena'. Is the scene in
Norway really so bad?
HX - No comment. Everyone should
judge for himself.
SH - Tell us a funny joke!
HX - Ok. Do you know the difference
between a sweetmeat-box and the first
row at a 'New Kids on The Block'-
concert? You can get two fingers into
a sweetmeat-box. (hmm...)
SH - Hehe. What do you think about
mailswapping?
HX - I'm not so much into it. But
since hundreds of people are, it must
be something 'in' it.
SH - Tell us about your home, your
hometown and about your everyday life.
HX - I am studying computer science
and electronics at the Norwegian
Institute of Technology. I am doing
my second year. I live in an
student-apartment 400 metres away from
the auditoria. And once in a while it
is party-time. (NOT Amiga-party). In
fact, there is nothing more to tell.
My life is boring.......
SH - Which is your favourite demo
style? Tell us an example, too.
HX - I admire demos which contain:
-orginal and 'good looking' routines
-music or SFX timed with actions on
screen
-nice interludes between parts
-good design
-advanced engineering mathematics
(i.e. Erwin Kreyszig)
-'fast' routines/actions (one should
never have the time to get bored)
-very few texts(-screens)
-no texts were the coder tries to
convince the watcher that his
routines are the best and fastest
(Such texts unveils lack of self-
confidence)
I'll not discuss our own demos here.
That could hardly be fair. But
somehow, I must admit that when I
first watched 'HardWired' I was
amazed. So many new ideas packed
together was a great achievement in
Amiga Demo history.
SH - Say some words about Andromeda's
future demo-projects.
HX - At X-mas-time this year (1992) we
will release a one file demo called
'Mind Riot' and a music-disk called
'Mirror'. And you have of course my
demo, which has the working title
'Q.E.D'.It'll be released at an easter
party in 1993. I can promise you good
stuff.................................
SH - Any last words?
HX- During my career I (?) have
discovered some laws which I want to
share with you:
1. Experience is directly proportional
to the amount of equipment ruined.
2. The visibility of an error is
inversely proportional to the
number of times you have looked at
it.
3. You always find things in the last
place you look.
4. Experience is something you don't
get until just after you need it.
